For Tahsinur Kabir from Bangladesh, heart-related symptoms had gradually become something he could not simply ignore. At 40, he was still focused on work, family, and the usual responsibilities of daily life, so the possibility of heart surgery came as a particularly difficult change. What worried him most was not knowing how serious the problem was or what treatment would ultimately be required.

Tahsinur and his family began exploring specialist cardiac care outside Bangladesh. During their search, they considered India and looked into the possibility of advanced valve treatment. His medical reports and investigations were shared with the cardiac team so that his condition could be reviewed before the journey and the treatment options discussed.

When Tahsinur first heard about robotic mitral valve repair, he wanted to understand more than just the technology. He had questions about how the repair would be carried out, why repair was being considered, how long the procedure might take, and what recovery would involve. The consultations gave him the opportunity to discuss those concerns and understand the planned approach. Robotic mitral valve repair is one of the approaches used for selected mitral valve procedures, alongside open and minimally invasive techniques.

Travelling from Bangladesh to India was a major decision for Tahsinur and his family. They had to organise the trip while also preparing emotionally for heart surgery. Once he arrived in India, the pre-operative assessments and specialist consultations helped him become more familiar with the treatment plan.

The day of surgery was a difficult one emotionally. Tahsinur had prepared himself through the consultations, but knowing that he was about to undergo a heart procedure still brought nervousness. His family remained nearby while they waited for an update.

Once surgery was completed, the focus shifted completely. Recovery meant resting, following medical advice, and allowing himself time to regain his strength. He gradually became more comfortable with moving around and returning to simple daily activities.

One thing that made the experience easier was having family support throughout the process. Being in another country could have felt unsettling, but having someone beside him gave Tahsinur a sense of familiarity during the hospital stay.

For him, travelling to India was ultimately a carefully considered step after his heart condition became something that required treatment. The journey involved uncertainty, preparation, surgery, and recovery, but each stage helped him move forward with a clearer understanding of his health.

Looking back on his experience, Tahsinur said:

“I did not expect heart surgery to become part of my life at this stage. Before travelling, I wanted to understand what was wrong with my valve and whether repair would be possible. The robotic approach was new to me, so I asked the doctors to explain what would actually happen during the procedure. After surgery, my mindset changed completely. I stopped worrying about how quickly I could get back to everything and started appreciating the smaller steps—resting well, moving around again and feeling stronger. Having my family with me throughout that period made a big difference.”

Thank You
